My Story

My name is Alan Goljevšček. I was born on October 20th, 1987. I live in Slovenia, in a small town called Deskle.

At the age of 11, me and my father visited hobby shop. He bought me a small free-flight glider and a rocket. It was enough to make me fall in love with flying. I spent hours and hours just throwing small glider and watching it fly. Then we start to build second glider; bigger, better, then another one,…

2After two years we decided it is time for first Radio Command system, which enabled RC flying. My first RC model was simple glider. Begginings were not easy, I was self-lerner. After half year, I lost it, it flew away and I never saw it again. But we didn’t give up; we bought another one.

For another year, I was flying only with gliders (also on the slopes). Even now I can still remember this unique feeling of calmness, when I tried to stay in the air as much as I could, using just forces of nature (wind, thermals).3

In 2002, I started to fly with motor-powered models. My passion for RC flying was growing stronger. I am very grateful to my father, who drove me every weekend to an airfield, builded new models for me and also repaired them. In such conditions I was able to improve my flying skills quite fast. A Big Thank You to my parents, which always help and encourage me in all this which I want to do and want to be…4

My first public exposure was in 2003, I participated in largest slovenian model airshow (Lesce) with home-build trainer. I was impressed with the skills of aerobatic pilots and I wanted to fly like this.

Afterwards we build a fun-flyer Dazzler equipped with methanol motor. It was my first aerobatic model. I was having a great time learning new maneuvers, especially hoovering and other 3D maneuvers. I watched a lot of online videos from RC aerobatic masters and tried to mimic them. It was slow, but fun process, full of discovering new tricks and hints.7

Meanwhile I also competed in national air-combat competitions. There I also earned my first trophy – 3rd place on 3rd competition. Then I decided not to compete in this category anymore and I devoted myself fully to aerobatic flying.

2005 I bought first shock-flyer from depron. I was totally fascinated by its simplicity and maneuverability, and I still am. Training with shock-flyer paid off very quickly. After a week, I was able to execute first real hoovering also with Dazzler(after 1 year period of attempts).

Then we started to build first gas-powered aerobatic model (2X2m Funtana equipped with MVVS 45). I also designed my first depron shock-flyer Yak 54 and released free plan in national modelling magazine TIM. A lot of Yaks were made and pilots were very happy with it.13

My passion for aerobatic flying grew stronger, and I flew a lot, almost every day, and I enjoyed every second of it… I started to fly also in a gym with indoor version of my Yak 54.

Meanwhile I also tried to fly with »real« flying devices, to satisfy my need to fly even more. I took some paragliding classes and also finished them, so I become licensed paraglider. I like to fly because I adore the feeling of being in true contact with nature; I think and see different, when I am 1000m above ground.14

In 2008, my father convinced me (otherwise I would never gain enough courage for this) that it is the time for first indoor competition (this was also my first aerobatic competition); Qualifications for German F3P Championship in Poing near Münich. I was nervous, but it was great, I learned a lot and managed to qualify to German F3P Championship finals.

he same year I participated also in national F3A-X competition in Postojna (first outdoor aerobatic competition for me) with Velox Revolution II. It was great; I finished 3rd in F3A-X and 1st in 4min freestyle.
